 Study Programme

The main priority of the study programme in Economics is to produce undergraduates that will be provided with a profound knowledge in the fields of: finance, marketing, accounting and audit, and economic theory, depending on the discrete choice of each particular student, and his academic and professional interests.

In general the programme is designed to have a multidisciplinary character. The study programme lasts for 8 semesters, 6 of which contain courses that are general to all the students regardless of their module choice. These subjects, which are crucial for all students to gain basic knowledge in the field of economics, include but are not limited to: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Principles of Management and Financing, Accounting, Integrated Business Curriculum, Entrepreneurship, Business English, Principles of Marketing, Business Law. The aforementioned courses, and the other which are part of the study programme are grouped into: mandatory courses, elective courses, and free elective courses. The courses in the first 6 semesters are the same for all students, regardless of their chosen module. During their 7th and 8th semester, depending on the module they have chosen, they will specialize into one of the four modules, listed above. After successfully passing all exams in accordance with the study programme, the student has to prepare and publicly defend his thesis. The defense of the thesis can happen as early as 7 days after the student passes his last exam, and takes place at the premises of the institution, in front of a committee of two professors. The thesis is itself valuated with a certain number of credits, in accordance with the study programme, and it is graded quantitatively, with the grade entering the average grade of the student.

In accordance with the article 99, from the Law on Higher Education, the study programme contains courses that can be conducted in English, besides the regular classes held in Macedonian for these courses. Such courses, in accordance with the study programme are: Managerial Economics (elective, 6 ECTS), Mathematics for economists (mandatory, 8 ECTS) and Business Statistics (mandatory, 8 ECTS).

In accordance with the article 99 from the Law on Higher Education full-time students are obliged to conduct internship in some company, lasting no less than 30 days, as a precondition for enrolling in the next academic year. The internship is included in the study programmes, but it has no credits, nor is it graded.

During the final academic year, the students will further enhance their knowledge, by getting involved in empirical problems, and case studies of practical problems, that will equip them with the tools to work on real-life scenarios in everyday business operations, relevant to their field of specialization. Besides obtaining a practical knowledge, the student will enhance its capabilities to come up with creative solutions, and working under pressure. The courses included in the programme and standard courses in each of the modules that are being taught in all renowned universities, with some minor modifications. The courses are structured in a way that provide a solid foundation for further education and specialization in all economic fields, as well as in other fields related to organization science, law and the human sciences.

The process of education of future graduates is intended to be both internationally oriented, as well as based on the labor market needs in R. Macedonia. The study programme is constructed to provide the students with a knowledge of the economic processes in the country and the regional policies.
